Plan B. B as Brave

Day 1 – Harmony of Nature and Community – Experiences near Windhoek

  • Just 25 kilometers from Windhoek lies the Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve, one of Namibia’s smallest wildlife parks—but certainly not short on experiences. Spanning around 4,000 hectares across the gentle hills of the Khomas Hochland, the park exudes a sense of tranquility. With no large predators present, the area can safely be explored on foot. Walking along its quiet trails, you may encounter baboons, gnus, impalas, zebras, and even giraffes. The fresh air, hilltop views, and closeness to nature quickly pull you out of everyday life.

  • Another special spot in the area is Penduka Village, located on the shores of the Goreangab Reservoir. This is a community initiative run by women, offering accommodation, a restaurant, and a variety of programs for visitors. Women from the Katutura district create handmade textiles, jewelry, and decorative items, and guests are invited to try their hand at crafts such as batik or jewelry making. In the evenings, you can even cook together over an open fire using fresh, local ingredients. Sustainability is a key aspect of the village’s operations—for example, hot water is provided using renewable energy.

Together, these two places offer a perfect introduction to the Windhoek region: a meeting of wild nature and living communities, where the landscape and the stories of its people become an integral part of the journey.

Day 2 – Wilderness, Flavors, and Traditions

  • Located in Namibia’s Otjozondjupa region, the Otjiwa Wildlife Reserve spans some 12,000 hectares of open bush savanna and gently rolling plains. Upon arrival, the peaceful atmosphere is immediately felt: under the vast African sky, the horizon seems endless, while giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and rhinos roam freely across the reserve. On a guided game drive, you’ll get a closer look at the area’s rich wildlife, and on a walking safari, you can notice the smaller details of the landscape—the scent of the dry earth, the soft rustle of the bushes, or the fresh tracks of animals.

  • The day also features a special culinary experience: a two-hour interactive cooking class where one of Otjiwa’s chefs demonstrates several signature dishes of Southern African cuisine. The dishes are then enjoyed together, accompanied by homemade drinks and dessert.

  • Cultural experiences in the area are completed with a visit to Ombu Village, located on the way to the Okonjima Nature Reserve. The village serves as a living museum, showcasing the traditions of the Herero people. Built around an old manor house, Ombu Village consists of nine traditional-style buildings that reflect the architectural eras of the past 150 years. At the local gift shop, visitors can choose from handmade Herero crafts created by artisans from nearby villages. Ombu Village thus offers not only insight into the local culture but also supports the livelihoods of the community.

Day 3 – The Wild Heart of Africa – Onguma Reserve

  • The Onguma Nature Reserve is located on the eastern side of Etosha National Park, near the picturesque Fisher’s Pan. This vast protected area, spanning over 34,000 hectares, offers a true insight into Africa’s wild world – a place that is both tranquil and awe-inspiring. Upon arrival, you immediately feel that here, nature sets the pace. The reserve is explored by vehicle, and along the way, there is a good chance of encountering the area’s unique wildlife, including the rarely seen black rhinoceros.
  • More than thirty species of wild animals roam freely within the reserve. Giraffes, zebras, impalas, elands, and kudu are commonly spotted across the savanna, while predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards also inhabit the area. The birdlife is equally remarkable: over 300 bird species have been observed in the reserve. During Namibia’s summer months, when the rains fill the region’s seasonal streams and wetlands, many migratory birds arrive here. At this time, Onguma becomes an especially exciting destination for birdwatchers.

Day 4 – The Realm of Wildlife and Sunsets – Exploring Etosha’s Southern Region

  • Southern Etosha is located in the northwestern part of Namibia, directly along the southern border of Etosha National Park. One of the park’s most well-known entrances is Andersson Gate, which provides easy access to the area. Today’s program includes a visit to a nearby reserve, offering insight into the rich wildlife of the Namibian savanna. There is a good chance of encountering lions, giraffes, elephants, as well as both white and black rhinoceroses, while many antelope species and zebras are also commonly seen across the savanna. Exploring the reserve is usually done on a game drive, but shorter guided nature walks are also available. One of the day’s most beautiful moments is the sunset, when the light gradually transforms the endless Namibian landscape into a golden hue.

Day 5 – In the Footsteps of the Himba Women

  • The Omapha Himba Village is located in the Southern Etosha region and is home to the Himba community. The Himba lead a semi-nomadic lifestyle and continue to preserve many of their traditions, which are evident in their clothing, daily routines, and the way their community functions.
  • During the visit, we will meet Himba women personally, who are happy to share stories about their everyday lives. They will show their traditional attire, explain their beauty rituals—such as the use of ochre for skin care—and describe how their days unfold in the village. This is a very direct, human encounter that brings us closer to Himba culture and lifestyle.
  • After the village visit, we will go on a nature hike along the dry bed of the Huab River and through the surrounding valleys. The landscape here is especially striking, with interesting geological formations and vast open panoramas. With some luck, we might even spot elephants or rhinoceroses in their natural habitat during the hike.

Day 6 – Swakopmund: Coastline and the World of the Khoisan Women

  • Swakopmund is located on Namibia’s northern coast, and from the very first moment, you can feel that it is a special place. Here, the German colonial past meets the African environment in a unique way: palm-lined streets, historic buildings, seaside promenades, and a calm, slightly European atmosphere define the town. Thanks to its proximity to the ocean, the climate is also milder than in Namibia’s interior, making it a popular destination for relaxation or exploration.

  • The natural surroundings of the area are equally remarkable. Here, the Namib Desert meets the cold Atlantic Ocean, often bringing misty mornings and evenings to the coast. This striking scenery creates a very special atmosphere, especially after the heat of the desert. Swakopmund is at once a peaceful seaside town and an exciting starting point for exploring the region.
  • In the evening, we will also get a glimpse into the lives of the local communities. In the nearby settlement of Mondesa, we will visit a local market and meet a group of Khoisan women who run a small arts and crafts center. They will share stories about their work and show the items they create using traditional techniques.
  • The program also includes a walk through the streets of Mondesa, bringing us closer to everyday life. We will watch the sunset from a local shebeen—a simple, locally frequented bar—or a small restaurant, enjoying a drink and the opportunity to chat with the locals. The evening concludes with a traditional dinner and cultural program at a popular local restaurant, allowing us to truly feel the town’s atmosphere and the rhythm of community life.

Day 7 – In the Footsteps of Dolphins – A Day on th

  • Today we remain in Swakopmund for a special marine adventure. In the morning, we board a boat and head out into the Atlantic Ocean for a dolphin-watching excursion. We will spend the morning at sea, with a good chance of seeing dolphins and other marine creatures in their natural habitat. The boat trip continues into the early afternoon. Lunch is served on board, while the open waters and coastal scenery around us make the experience even more memorable. The fresh sea air and the ocean’s calm rhythm make this day truly unforgettable.

Day 8 – Sossusvlei and Sesriem – The Magic of the Desert at Sunset

  • There are no accommodations within the Sossusvlei area itself, so we explore this extraordinary desert landscape from Sesriem, located about 65 kilometers away, where our lodge is also situated. Sesriem serves as the starting point for discovering the world-famous sand dunes. One of the area’s most fascinating natural formations is the Sesriem Canyon, carved deeply into the rocks over millennia by water. The canyon is best explored on foot: as we walk between its narrow walls, we may spot birds resting in the crevices, while lizards often scurry across the sun-warmed stones. The canyon’s name comes from early settlers, who tied together six leather straps—“ses riem”—to lower their bucket into the water collected deep below.
  • At the end of the day, a unique desert experience awaits. In the late afternoon, we set out from our lodge for a leisurely drive through the surrounding private reserve. As the sun sinks lower, the desert’s colors continuously shift. Our guide takes us to a panoramic viewpoint, where we enjoy a drink while watching the sun slowly disappear below the horizon, turning the dunes into shades of gold and red. The silence of the desert at sunset creates an extraordinary atmosphere—a moment to simply pause and savor the calm of the landscape.

Day 9 – The Iconic Landscapes of the Namib Desert

  • We set out early from our lodge to arrive at Namib–Naukluft National Park at sunrise. At this hour, the desert is still cool, and the first light beautifully highlights the shapes of the sand dunes. The park is explored in a 4×4 vehicle with a local guide, who shares insights about the desert’s wildlife, its plants, and the unique features of the landscape.
  • The approximately 60-kilometer route winds through the dunes with several short stops, giving us time to admire the scenery and take photos. One highlight is Dune 45, one of the world’s most famous sand dunes. From there, we continue to Deadvlei, or the “Dead Valley,” where a short guided walk takes us across the dried clay pan and among centuries-old, dead acacia trees. Those seeking a challenge can climb Big Daddy, one of the highest dunes in the area.
  • During the morning program, we also reach the Sossusvlei area, returning to our lodge for lunch after about five and a half hours.
  • Later, we visit Sesriem Canyon, one of the Namib Desert’s striking natural formations. This narrow gorge was carved by the Tsauchab River over millions of years. Walking between its walls, it’s easy to see the power with which water has shaped the landscape. Though the area may appear barren at first glance, the canyon is home to several desert plants and animals, making it a fascinating stop in the unique world of the Namib.

Day 10 – Journey Home from Namibia

  • Today we say goodbye to Namibia and begin our journey home. Over the past days, we have gathered countless extraordinary experiences: exploring the endless dunes of the desert, encountering the wildlife of the savanna, and marveling at the stunning landscapes, while meeting local women who shared insights into their culture and daily lives. This marks the conclusion of a rich, discovery-filled journey, leaving us with many memories and inspiring stories to carry home.
