DISCOVERING MAURITIUS THROUGH WOMEN’S EYES

THE SOUL OF THE TROPICS – WHERE THE OCEAN MEETS CULTURE

21 - 30 April 2026

A journey that reveals not only the postcard-perfect beaches of Mauritius, but also its very soul – through women’s eyes, with a slower pace and deeper meaning.

During this 10-day women’s journey, we connect to the heart and stories of the island – from the aromas of Creole cuisine to the stillness of the mangrove forests, from the warmth of artisan workshops to the shade of ebony groves.

Our path takes us to the bustling market of Port Louis, where local flavors and stories intertwine. We’ll learn traditional recipes from a Mauritian host, and plant a tree with our own hands in the protected Ebony Forest. We’ll paddle along the coastline by sea kayak, weave bracelets with local women, and hike the trails of Black River Gorges National Park to encounter the island’s rare birds.

Our accommodation is a carefully selected boutique beachside hotel, offering the perfect balance of discovery and relaxation.

Throughout the journey, you’ll experience culinary adventures, conservation activities, artisan encounters, and community connections – all seen through women’s perspectives, shared in inspiring stories, on an island where mountains, ocean, and diverse cultures exist in extraordinary harmony.

Day 1: Arrival & Gentle Tune-In

  • Upon arrival at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), you’ll be warmly greeted at the airport and transferred to La Mariposa Hotel. After check-in, the rest of the day is yours to unwind at your own pace—settle into your room, relax by the ocean, and gently ease into the island’s sun-kissed rhythm.

  • As the sun sets, we’ll gather for a welcome drink by the beach. This will be the perfect moment to meet your fellow travelers, toast to the unforgettable days ahead, and soak in the breathtaking Mauritian sunset as our journey begins.

Day 2: Flavors of Mauritius – A Creole Cooking Experience

Approx. 09:30 – 13:00

  • Today we immerse ourselves in the culinary soul of Mauritius with Rosemonde as our host. In an intimate, authentic setting, we’ll discover how Indian, African, Chinese, and French traditions blend to shape the island’s cuisine.
  • This is more than a cooking class – it’s a hands-on cultural exchange. We’ll chop, stir, and cook together, creating a traditional Mauritian meal from scratch. The result: a delicious shared table and a deeper understanding of the island’s vibrant food heritage.

Day 3: Conservation & Views – Hiking and Reforestation at Ebony Forest

Full-day program – Reserve open 09:00–17:00

  • Lace up your hiking boots – today is dedicated to nature and renewal at the Ebony Forest Reserve. On a guided hike, we’ll explore one of the last remaining sanctuaries of the island’s endemic ebony trees and encounter unique wildlife found nowhere else on Earth.
  • Along the trails, breathtaking panoramic views of Mauritius’ southwest coast await, offering the perfect pause for reflection and awe. The highlight of the day: planting a native tree with your own hands. This simple yet powerful act becomes a living contribution to restoring the island’s biodiversity – a lasting gift to Mauritius.

Day 4: The Rhythm of Port Louis & A Botanical Oasis

Morning food tour approx. 08:45–12:00 / Afternoon in Pamplemousses Botanical Garden

  • Today we head into the lively heart of Mauritius: Port Louis. With a local guide, we’ll weave through the historic downtown, tasting our way across bustling markets and street stalls. Each bite tells a story of cultural fusion – a mosaic of flavors shaped by the island’s diverse heritage.
  • In the afternoon, the pace shifts. We step into serenity at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses. Here, giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies float on tranquil ponds, and rare native and exotic plants unfold their beauty. It’s the perfect counterpoint to the city’s energy – a pause in nature’s embrace.

Day 5 – Free Day

Today is entirely yours!

Relax, recharge, and soak up the laid-back beach vibes of La Mariposa. Stroll along the sandy shore, swim in the turquoise lagoon, or simply unwind under a sun umbrella with a good book. If you feel like it, join others for a shared activity, or discover some of the small local treasures in the area.

Day 6 – Handicraft Workshop with Shivani and Fabiola

Morning program: approx. 09:00–12:00

  • This morning we head to the southeastern part of the island, where Shivani and Fabiola will welcome us. These local women will show us how to weave bracelets and necklaces from pandanus leaves. The workshop aims to revive traditional Mauritian crafts and encourage mindful creation. And what could be a better souvenir from Mauritius than a handcrafted piece you learned to make from local artisans?

Day 7 – Coastal Discovery by Sea Kayak

Approx. 09:00–13:00

This morning, we’ll hop into kayaks and paddle at a relaxed pace through the clear waters of the nearby lagoon. Along the way, we’ll get a close-up view of the coastline and pass through peaceful mangrove forests. After the paddling, a local chef will prepare lunch for us right on the beach, giving us a taste of authentic Mauritian cuisine.

Day 8 – Gorges and Sunset Farewell

Half-day program: approx. 09:00–15:00

  • On our last full program day, we’ll explore Black River Gorges National Park, hiking through its protected forests. Here, we may spot rare birds such as the pink pigeon or the Mauritian kestrel, all while admiring dramatic gorges and waterfalls.
  • In the evening, we’ll gather to close the week together with a sunset circle. Sitting by the sea, we’ll reflect on the past days, sharing the most memorable moments of our journey. This gentle, simple gathering is a heartfelt way to conclude our adventure and say goodbye, enriched with shared experiences.

Day 9 – Free Day

This is your final full day on the island, to spend entirely at your own pace. Perhaps there’s a place you’ve heard about during the week that you’d like to explore? Or maybe you just want to rest by the beachside hotel, reflecting on all the moments you’ve lived. However you choose, this day is all about you.

Day 10 – Optional Dolphin Watching & Departure

Morning program: approx. 06:00–09:00

  • We begin the day with a special opportunity: an early morning boat trip to observe playful dolphins off the western coast in their natural habitat. This program is optional, but truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
  • Afterward, there’s one last chance for a gentle snorkeling session in the calm lagoon waters. The vibrant colors of the underwater world offer a perfect finale to the week.
  • We’ll then return to the hotel, say our goodbyes to La Mariposa, and after checking out, head together to the airport. We leave Mauritius with hearts full of memories, new connections, and a touch of island calm to carry with us.
